Bio 

There is a fluid relationship between Courtesy’s work as a DJ, composer, performer and visual artist. Her practice is about meeting people, congregating with an interesting crowd on a dance floor, at a gathering under her ‘Against Interpretation’ banner, or in one of the photo or video sessions which make the foundation for her visual work. 

The Danish artist oscillates between these parties or encounters to extended time alone in hotel rooms in foreign countries, and in her Berlin studio, doing research on music, reading, composing and producing works. 

Courtesy is best known for her emotional dance music selections as a DJ, working with various genres; house, techno, Detroit electro, speed garage, ambient trance and experimental music. She has toured extensively around the world, and played venues and festivals such as Berghain/Panorama Bar, Tresor, Sonar, Primavera, Club to Club, Atonal and Sustain-Release. She maintains a residency on NTS Radio and is the founder and creative director of the interdisciplinary arts platform Against Interpretation fka. Kulør, curating epochal dance music releases, publications and art events.

Courtesy’s music releases, performances and sound pieces are a homage to painting and literature,  may that be the work of Sigmar Polke, R.H. Quaytman, Mark Lecky, Matthias Groebel, Stephen Prina, Susan Sontag, David Joselit, Frank O'Hara, John Berger etcetera etcetera. As an artist, she has exhibited and performed at the art institutions CCA Berlin, Treize, Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Conde Duque Contemporary Culture Center, Arken, and Berghain. Her sophomore album intimate yell was released in October 2024.
